Information

It is strange how the same legend can provide an entirely inspire artists in an entirely different way. The inspiration for one of the most popular operas by Gaetano Donizetti, the most successful European composer during the 1830s, comes from the story of Tristan and Isolde. The opera tells the story of the protagonist as she inspires her lover to conquer her. The story is as old as time itself, and this love story has inspired everything from epic tragedies to comedies. Donizetti's captivating L'elisir d'amore falls into the latter category, and the score is brimming with enchanting melodies that intoxicate the listener just like the elixir of love itself with a lovely production in the Teatro Real.
